  How to make a fence?
  To build closeboard fencing with feather edge boards, you need feather edge fence boards, gravel boards, and arris rails, as well as annular ring nails for the structure and for the feather edge boards. After determining the location and clearing the area, notch your fence posts and set the first one in position, filling the hole with cement. Dig holes and set the remaining posts. Then, attach your arris rails and gravel boards. Then, take your first feather edge board and sit it on the gravel board with the thick edge flush with the left face of your first post. Nail it in position. Place the next boards, overlapping by 25mm and spacing them evenly. Check the vertical levels every 4-5 boards. Finally, you can add a counter rail and capping rails.

Its high resin content makes it less susceptible to rot and insects, while the high density means it's harder than other softwoods and even some hardwoods.   How many deck boards do I need?

  To determine how many boards to get, you need to calculate the area of your future deck. Multiply its length by the width. Don't forget to account for any stairs. Then, decide on the deck board sizeto use depending on your desired deck size and board orientation. Remember that the fewer cuts, the better. Next, calculate the surface of each board by multiplying the length of the board by its width. Finally, divide the area of your deck by the board area. To calculate even more precisely, you can calculate board spacing and subtract it from the total area. To do so, multiply 3mm spacing by the number of boards on your deck minus 2 (because the first and last boards won’t have a gap on one side). Multiplying the number you get by the length of your deck to get the total spacing. Note, however, that you'll need some extra boards in case of mishaps, waste, or offcuts. Add about 10% to 15% to cover such mistakes.

  How long do treated sleepers last? 

  Our treated softwood sleepers are guaranteed to last 10 years. Their life can be extended further by applying suitable decking oils or wood preservatives. Some people apply wood dyes to their sleepers to change the tint. 

  Do all green treated sleepers turn grey? 

  All softwood timber will go through a gradual change in colour over time and that's a natural process, but they will not grey like Oak, per se. You can adopt some simple measures to retain the colour of softwood sleepers. For example, you can wash them and apply a layer of wood preserving stains once a year for a return of the deeper colour. This is useful especially before wet and cold winter months. Such maintenance will prolong the effects of the pressure treatment and keep the wood looking its best.

  Oak Versus Softwood Sleepers? 

  People often ask, are Oak or Softwood sleepers better? The key thing to remember is that Oak is a hardwood, and will not need treating, however Oak is scarce and therefore it is more expensive. Softwood however is more economical, and due to technologies in wood preservation treatments it will usually last as long as the Oak anyway. The key thing to remember is that Oak, being from a hardwood tree, will have more knots and sometimes minor splits or bark, although some people prefer this for the characterful appearance.
